Feathers, flowers or flourishes??

I picked up this stamp set called Damask Floral at Stamping Around Connecticut from Donna Marie. Well, when I saw the colors for this weeks Color Throwdown #53 (so NOT me colors), I thought this set just might work.  There are actually seven images in the set;  I just used a few here.  As I was working on this last night, I thought they actually looked a bit feathery.  I also decided to try some different techniques coloring wise on this.  So out came the chalks and blender pens (that I have never used!)

The challenge colors are Bordering Blue, Pink Pirouette and Rose Red.  I used  chalks and my blender pens to color, combining a few different pinks to try to get close to Pink Pirouette.  I also sponged chalked around the outside of the image.  To give it some dimension, I stamped it twice, layering the flowery feathery parts of the image.  I think it works!

I used Bella Birds DSP to accent the Bordering Blue, and layered Pink Pirouette and Rose Red papers.  I happen to have some Pink Pirouette ribbon and tied it off of the front. After I did, it seemed to need something, so I cut out a little circle design from the DSP and covered it in Crystal effects, adding a little blingy rhinestone to the center.  I also cut out a flourish design from the DSP and added it to the inside for some excitement (woohoo!!!  I know how to party!! haha!)

After all is said and done, I like the way it came out!  Even though I was not sure when I first saw the colors!  I am glad I am starting to do these color challenges...they are really helping me  try some new things, and I hope I inspire you to get out some tried and true supplies, like chalks!

stamps:  Damask Floral, Impression Obsession
paper:  SU! Bella Birds, Pink Pirouette, Rose Red
technique:  chalks and blender pens
accessories:  crystal effects, bling and pink pirouette ribbon

I totally agree about the color challenges stretching your creativity Lauri - I guess we all tend to grab certain colors that we like most of the time - your card is just lovely - that stamp set is wonderful and I love your layering of the blossoms - nice job on this!

Too bad you didn't pick up that land on Lake Winnepesaukee years ago - the values have gone through the roof now!! of course - so have the real estate taxes on waterfront property!!
